Who Is PlayConnect For?
PlayConnect Playgroups focus on families with children who experience Autism Spectrum Disorder or ASD-like characteristics. No diagnosis is required to attend PlayConnect. Children between the ages of 0-6 years are welcome with their parents or caregivers.
These Playgroups are designed for the benefit of the whole family, and provide an opportunity to connect with other families experiencing ASD.
How Will PlayConnect Benefit My Family?
The PlayConnect playgroup is a space for families to share their experiences, questions and advice with other families experiencing Autism Spectrum Disorder or ASD-like characteristics. Children, parents and caregivers can make friends, learn through play and seek support. Visitors and Guest Speakers regularly attend from the Autism Advisor Program, Autism NT, and the NDIS. Speech and Occupational Therapists also attend as occasional guests. Playgroup NT staff can connect families with further support services. Playgroup has a positive impact upon young children’s social, cognitive, emotional and language development, and an ASD-targeted Playgroup will benefit children who struggle in these areas.
Where is PlayConnect Held?
PlayConnect playgroup is delivered at Playgroup House, Marrara, operating every Friday during school terms from 9:30am – 11:30am.
What Happens at PlayConnect?
A range of activities will be on offer for the children to choose from, including arts and crafts and outside activities. A routine of morning tea, singing and dancing, story time and a farewell song is led by Playgroup NT staff, which helps to prepare for school readiness. Morning Tea is provided free of charge.
Do I Need to Pay?
There is no session fee for the PlayConnect playgroup, but families do need to have membership with Playgroup NT. PlayConnect is funded by the Australian Government Department of Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs as part of the Helping Children With Autism Package.
