CALD

Who is the CALD playgroup for?

The Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) playgroup is focused on families who speak languages other than English or who belong to a minority culture. This could mean cultures from international regions or Indigenous and Torres Strait Islander cultures. Parents, caregivers and children between the ages of 0-5 years are welcome at CALD Playgroups.

How will a CALD playgroup benefit my family?

The CALD playgroup is a welcoming place where families can socialise, learn through play and celebrate their diverse cultures. Adults can develop friendships, discuss their experiences and seek advice from others. Children learn valuable skills through play which enhance their development in preparation for school readiness.

What happens at a CALD playgroup?

A range of activities and experiences will be on offer for the children to choose from, including arts and crafts and outside activities. A routine of morning tea, singing and dancing, story time and a farewell song is led by the Playgroup NT staff. Families bring morning tea for their children which helps with school readiness.

Where is CALD held?

CALD playgroup is delivered every Monday during school terms from 9am – 11am at the Driver Family Resource Centre, Driver, Palmerston.

What do I need to pay?

There is no playgroup session fee for the CALD playgroup, although you do need to be a Playgroup NT member. The CALD playgroup is funded by the Australian Government Red Cross Communities for Children Program.
